Vermont police department hire French bulldog to join their feisty force and assist kids going to school in the most wholesome way: 'He is our tactical potato'

We've all seen those big, scary-looking police dogs at the airport or on the streets before. They look like policemen (or women) themselves - dressed up in their pawlice dog uniform, perfectly behaved, and always on the lookout for mischief to stop. But in Vermont, they're going a slightly different direction with their newest addition to their animal force, and this direction is smaller, cuter, and snores like a 70-year-old man. He's a French bulldog, and he's their "tactical potato".

That title isn't just referring to his shape; his vest actually says 'TACTICAL POTATO' on it. Now, you might be asking yourself, "What is the job of a tactical potato?" Well, apparently, he helps kids on their way to school, and he takes his job very seriously. He also helps eat the office snacks, but that's more of a hobby than a profession. 

Technically, he's more of a volunteer than an employee, but ask anyone who's met him and they'll tell you that he's the finest pawlice dog they've ever met. We're pretty sure all the parents of this Vermont town can sleep easier now that there is a pawfessional potato helping their kids get to school in the most wholesome way. We certaily would.

  • If you zoom in, his K9 vest is full of howlarious little details. Fur example, instead of saying K9, it says “K8.5”. He's probably more of a K4 when you compare him to the other dogs on the K9 unit, but we don't have the heart to tell him.

  • This is the truth, though. Our uncle had a French bulldog when we were growing up and when that dog passed gas, you had to leave the room. You could almost see the haze of a terrible smell as it wafted through the air.
